Their investigation rips off the bandage that covers the cracks in an overburdened, understaffed foster care system and reveals the painful reality that children are all too often battered, terrified victims of the people who should love them the most.Torn between salvaging his marriage and trying to save a child he s grown to love, Daniel fears both are slipping beyond his grasp. Deborah struggles to hang on to her new found sobriety in the face of the pressure of her job and her past, while Alex fights to get a foothold in the life of a woman who refuses to trust him or any other man. As the two investigations become more and more entwined, Deborah, Alex, and Daniel risk everything even their lives to bring a little boy home and unmask a child's murderer....

This book really ripped me up inside, with its depiction of child abuse. It made me cry. The writing was very good, and I liked the way she showed characters who were Christians and trying to live their lives and deal with some very dark aspects in their job and around them. I will definitely read more by this author.Reviewed for Affaire de Coeur September Issue: http://affairedecoeur.com.

I really liked this book and was aggravated that I couldn't read it faster. Stupid job and like sometimes gets in the way of reading. This is the first book I have read by Kelly Irvin, but it wont be the last. This was a fast moving book that had many twists and turns and opened my eyes to some aspects of child abuse. I loved how the hero didn't stop until he had the answers

Great thriller, but it has a very sensitive subject matter in the kidnapping of an 8 year old boy. Romance mixed in too.

An interesting kidnapping mystery with along with a Christian message. Interesting characters, struggling with their darker natures and trying to be better people.
