I have waited to read this book, and author Lena Diaz did not disappoint me. When Ryan was first assigned Jessica for wit sec program he misjudged her. The book starts off with neither liking the other. It was fun to see how their friendship grew while they were running for their lives. The suspense and action kept me turning the pages. This was a book that I could NOT put down. The twist and turns were good, and I would have never guessed the plot. I will have to read more books by Lena Diaz.Sample from chapter 5She was just sliding into bed when a bright orange light flashed outside the window, followed by a dull roar. Even without lifting the heavy curtains, she could see the flames flickering on the other side of the glass. A bubble of panic swept through her. Jumping out of bed, she ran through the house to the front door. When she grabbed the doorknob, she yelped and yanked her hand back from the searing heat. With more caution, she held her palm a few inches from the door. Heat radiated toward her in waves. The front porch must be on fire too!

I love reading debut books by authors. While Ms. Diaz has written different genres of books for a different publisher, this is her first romantic suspense for Harlequin Intrigue. This was a fast-paced, tension-filled, action almost every moment story; it was well-written and I really enjoyed it. I wanted a little more in the romance department--the elements were there, but this was just a story that leaned more toward the suspense end of things. I loved the setting, too. The Smoky Mountains of Tennessee is one of the prettiest places in the country, imo.

Very good book with plenty of action and suspense, making it very hard to put down. Jessica has been in Witness Protection for a year as she prepares for and then testifies against her former boss. Unfortunately, his trial ends up in a mistrial, putting her in further danger, and sending her into Witness Security with a new name and location. Ryan is one of the marshals assigned to protect her, and the only one to survive an explosion the last day of the trial. When she is relocated yet again, Ryan is with her for added protection until she is settled. He's not happy about it as he considers her just slightly less of a criminal than her boss, since she was his accountant for years. Jessica isn't any too fond of him either, as she can see his contempt for her. When someone tries to kill them both the first night in the new location, Ryan realizes there must be a leak in the program. He takes Jessica on the run in the mountains as he tries to protect her from those who are after them. As they make their way through the woods, he is impressed by her determination. He also finds himself attracted to her in spite of what he believes she has done. Ryan's feelings start to change as he learns more about her and what really happened. His protectiveness becomes more than just part of his job.Jessica's early life was spent going from one foster home to the next, teaching her to depend only on herself. The accounting job she got right out of college was a good one, until she discovered that there were some shady things going on. It took awhile but she was able to get evidence to the FBI, but not until she saw her best friend murdered. She's fine with going into WitSec, but dealing with the judgmental Ryan isn't pleasant. When he saves her life again and they have to go on the run, she is forced to trust him. I loved the interactions between them as they made their way through the mountains. Ryan is used to being obeyed without question and is frustrated by Jessica's constant questioning of him. Jessica is an intelligent woman and refuses to put up with being left out of the loop. I loved seeing the attraction between them develop in spite of their resistance. I also liked seeing them getting to know each other and discovering that their initial judgments may not have been entirely accurate. Ryan slowly lets go of his distrust, but is still resisting his feelings toward her. He knows she'll be going back into hiding and he can't go with her without giving up everything important to him. I liked seeing Jessica get Ryan to open up to her about things that happened in his past. She also saw how important his family is to him which only made her care more about him. I loved seeing her stand up to him when she thought he was disregarding something important. Her growing feelings for him cause her to make a few reckless decisions in an attempt to help him, but they turn out ok. By the time the end of the book comes she knows she loves him, but doesn't expect him to give up everything for someone like her. I really liked the ending. The suspense and action itself was fantastic. Ryan's determination to keep Jessica safe is solid. He is also set on finding out who it is that has been leaking the information that has put them in danger. It seems like they just can't get ahead of it. There were several twists and turns to get them to safety and finding out who the bad guy was. I did figure it out before the end, but it was still very well done. The final confrontation was intense, but also had a couple light moments in it.

If I could have, I probably would have ranked this book a 4.5. It is a very well written book that is easy to get into. Jessica Delaney was an accountant for the mob who testified against her former boss and goes into witness protection. When her life is at risk, US Marshal Ryan Jackson must act to save her and they become involved during their flight and fight for survival. The only issue I had with this book was some small gaps in the portrayal of the characters' romantic relationship, that make for a small stretch of the imagination. All in all, a good book that I would recommend for a quick read.I received this book autographed from the author for free through Goodreads First Reads.

Lena Diaz's debut Intrigue is packed full of bad guys and a hero to die for. The heroine is city-girl real and a gem. I love their interactions. With no one to trust...except each other... Well, Diaz creates the exact story I love to read. And of course, there's a HEA, which is a must. Will definitely pick up her next book.

Romantic suspense with a tough hero who is NOT misogynistic. A few authors could take some tips from this author. Lots of action and end was so sweet!

An intriguing suspense full of action and romance. This book is the definition of intrigue - the plans to do something illicit or detrimental to someone. Jessica Delaney has not had an easy life. She was pushed around from foster home to foster home for most of her life. She was happy when he finally landed a job as an accountant. What she didn't know is the company she worked for was owned by a mob boss. After trying to secretly gather information for the FBI her friend and co-worker is killed by the man thinking she was the traitor. She was put into Witness Protection until the trial. But when it ended in a mistrial she was then put into Witness Security where the first of many attempts on her life were made. Ryan Jackson the U.S. Marshal assigned to protect Jessica didn't like her from what he had read. He assumed she had been in bed with the mob and was only here because things got to scary after the death of her friend. His feelings are made even worse when 4 U.S. Marshals who were his friend died trying to protect her. But Ryan is an honorable man who would never let his feelings get in the way of protecting a witness. After more attempts on Jessica's life these two have to go on the run through the mountains to escape many assassins. Its through this trek that the two come to learn about the other and realize that maybe there first impressions of each other was wrong. There are lots of suspenseful movements through out this book and Jessica and Ryan are both character you come to love and root for during the book.

Finally a Harlequin Intrigue that I love. I was about ready to give up on finding any that would really grab my attention. I will still probably hesitate but this gave me some hope that there’s still good ones out there. I love stories that have the love/hate premise to them. And this was perfect. Ryan has to help Jessica get settled at her new location as part of the WitSec program. He is attracted to her just as Jessica is attracted to him. However, he doesn’t want to be since Jessica worked several years as an accountant for a criminal before coming forward with evidence against him. Right from the beginning we realize that Ryan will have to stay with her and be on the run together as trouble always finds them no matter where they go. Ryan made for a great male lead, good looking and definitely the Alpha type. There were moments that could have been considered TSTL but were not annoying as I find others to be in the usual Harlequin Intrigue books where the lead characters become separated because of a silly mistake by the female. Jessica did do exactly what Ryan told her not to, but in her case, she wanted to give him back up. Jessica is a likeable female lead showing a vulnerable side in the cutest ways.I liked that Jessica gave him somewhat of a hard time at the end ince he was sort of cold/harsh about his decision to be with her. It was nice how he went about making up for it.

Ok. This isn't a 'bad' book, it's just a typical category romance and as much as I try to recapture my misspent youth, I just can't. CatRoms just don't do for me anymore. They aren't as bad as SyFy produced movies, but they are the equivalent of the vanilla Lifetime movies. Now, I was going to give it three stars because despite the vanilla, I was entertained for most of the book. Likeable hero, for the most part , even though he did have a stuck so far up his back-end, he was about to become a unicorn, and a heroine, who also mostly likeable, was so down on luck that I kept waiting for, "Please, sir, I want some more?".Then it happened. Our accountant heroine just happens to be a computer geek who hacks willy nilly into Federal databases. Yeeaahhh. 'Hacking' doesn't work that way and pulling it out in the last minute is a deus ex. The minute the 'hacker' heroine showed up, this story went from a solid, entertaining bit of fluff to AREYOUEFFINGKIDDINGMESTFUBBQ. Then the end...just... I'm really tempted to drop it to one star. So tempted.

Romantic suspense 4 1/2 starsI just finished reading THE MARSHAL'S WITNESSThis is my first Harlequin intrigue that I read by Lena Diaz.Ryan Jackson is a U.S. Marshal assigned to protect Jessica ,who is a protected witness. First, Ryan doesn't trust her, but breaks protocol to protect her from the crime lord who wants her dead. Also, someone is leaking information concerning the whereabouts of Jessica. Is it someone from the crime organization or the department of the C.I.A. responsible? You will have to read this intrigue to find out who! Lots of action and suspense! I loved her characters Jessie and Ryan and liked their love story. Wonderful interaction between her charming characters. When you start this novel, you won't be able to stop! Very well written by Ms. Diaz. I recommend this romantic love suspense.

In Diaz’s romantic suspense novel, U.S. Marshall Ryan Jackson breaks protocol by taking a protected witness on the run. Jessica Delaney had testified against a crime boss nearly putting him away for life. Ryan doesn’t trust her—she had worked for the mob—but it was his sworn duty to protect her at any cost. It soon becomes clear there’s a mole working in the Witness Protection Program and Ryan is determined to identify the culprit who keeps leaking her new identity. As they strive to stay ahead of killers in pursuit, the net tightens around them and they must work together to defeat the darkness and hope they don’t lose themselves in the process.Fast-paced, action-packed, hard to put down thriller.

Another winner by Lena Diaz! Okay, so I'm a fan. I have to tell you, if I'm ever running from crazed killers while in the mountains, I want Ryan Jackson by my side. And while I guessed the Bad Guy, I couldn't figure out the WHY, so I didn't believe myself. AND I didn't guess everything. Enough red herrings to throw me off the trail and very well done. I really felt for Jessica - thrust into doing what's right even though staying quiet would have been SO much easier.

I could not put this down. The story had my attention from the beginning. I really liked how Ryan came to understand how wrongly he had judged Jessica in the beginning. Jessica was really unsure of herself, but I felt she was strong and had truly overcome great difficulties. The action in the story never stopped, yet the characters still developed well.

This is very formulaic, but that's why we read these types of books. Overall, it was very well written and the story kept a good pace. There were a couple things that were not believable at all (hacking into the CIA with a borrowed laptop), but again, we all know what we're getting with these stories. I enjoyed the book and the characters.

I am officially addicted to Harlequin Intrigue books! This one has all the action and suspense you typically find in this line. In "The Marshal's Witness", the action never flags! Although it's kinda easy to figure out the bad guy, this still delivered a plot twist that surprised me. I found Ryan's attitude a bit holier-than-thou, but it didn't detract from the fast-paced story!

I've been a fan of Ms. Diaz's since I read SIMON SAYS DIE. While the HQN books are shorter, she still manages to build the suspense and romance of THE MARSHAL'S WITNESS. If you haven't read any of Lena Diaz's books...what are you waiting for? Go get one. Start with the Marshal's Witness. You won't be disappointed.

I listened to the audiobook of The Marshal's Witness and absolutely loved it. The narrator did a fantastic job bringing to light Diaz's wonderful writing. Ryan was a super hot alpha keeping witness Jess safe. There was humor and passion and danger and tons of action that kept me hooked through the whole book.

Loved the book! While I read it at a busy time for me - which meant interruptions! - I kept thinking about the characters when I was busy doing real world business. The twists kept me thinking and I was crying at the end - yes I'm that kind of sap! lol Will definitely look for more of Lena's work!

L D is becoming one of my favorite romantic suspense authors and she doesn't disappoint in this book. Lots excitement and a show building romance. I got a little frustrated with how long it took the hero to trust the heroine, but he makes up for it in the end. A page turner I simply devoured.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It was fast-paced and believable, and I really liked both the hero, Ryan, and the heroine, Jessica. The story was uncomplicated, yet it had enough little twists and turns to keep me engaged until the end. Thanks, Lena, for a fun read! Great Harlequin debut!

I love a Harlequin Intrigue, that plays like a movie in my mind and The Marshal's Witness did just that. This is a good one, with believable characters and action. Jessica the heroine is funny and resourceful. Looking forward to Lena Diaz's next Intrigue.
