Harry S. Truman and the Modern American Presidency Reviews
excellent biography; very good prospective on Truman' place in history
This is a short, concise book on the public life of Harry S. Truman. I have read many books on Truman, so found this one pretty thin reading, but then, it was obviously not intended to be a full-blown biography. If you are really interested in Truman Biographies, I recommend "Harry S. Truman" by his daughter, Margaret (this was one of the first Presidential Biographies that I ever read, and it started me on 25+ years, so far, of reading Presidential Literature.) The other book to read on H.S.T. is the Pulitzer Prize winning "Truman" by David McCullough, probably the best of the bunch.
I read this for the class that I'm TA-ing. Truman's presidency was a very compelling story, but I didn't think this biography was written in a way that truly brought that story out.
