This book was fantastic! I think it's my favorite of the series. Shelby is learning how use her 'super power' with more finesse, and she's definitely getting smarter about how she reacts to the thoughts of others! I love how she handles the situations where people are thinking some nasty stuff about her, (even though they don't even know her!) and instead of getting mad she talks to the person and changes their opinion of her.Shelby's man is in trouble, and it's time for her to take matters in to her own hands... with Uncle Joey's help, of course. It's nice to have friends in powerful places, well, maybe not friends, but as close as a mob boss can get. Something is going down in the city, something big that has Uncle Joey worried, but he's willing to help Shelby out since he's got a stake in Chris' high profile case involving a well-known business man... in return for her help of course. Some old friends and foes are back in this exciting new Shelby Nichols Adventure! It's fun, humorous, and definitely a Must Read! :)

"Lie or Die" is another great installment in the Shelby Nichols Adventure Series. This time Shelby takes on her first consulting job. It seems that a bank wants to recover the missing money from a bank robbery. Unfortunately, the private detective they hired, Robert Felt, feels Shelby is involved in illegal activities and refuses to leave her alone because his reputation is in the line and he wants the finder's fee.Meanwhile, our favorite crime boss, Uncle Joey, the knife wants Shelby's help to determine who he can trust to promote. There is a big court case that could put his operations at stake if his accountant's firm loses and oddly enough Shelby's husband, Chris inherited the case when one of the lead attorneys is viciously attacked. Now Shelby is worried about Chris' safety. After a few missteps, it is clear someone wants Uncle Joey in jail. It will take all of Shelby's talent and more to keep that from happening. Once again, Helme provides her readers with a bevy of wonderfully colorful characters including one of Shelby's nemesis. Additionally, Shelby's husband, Chris continues to grow on me as well as Joey's security expert, Ramos. I am not sure how Helme plans to resolve this quandary but I am looking forward to reading about it! This series just keeps getting better and better. I can't wait to read the next installment.

Am definitely hooked! As soon as if finished reading this I downloaded the rest of the series :) Seriously loving the situations Shelby finds herself in and the others who are helping her! We're starting to learn more about uncle Joeys organisation and his men, but he seems quite taken with our Shelby.. Not in a romantic way but family wise.... Liking the character 'Dimples' and I love that that's what Shelby calls him, glad he's still here in the story and hopefully he'll continue to be :) Time for the next one.....

Book 3 And still going strongAbsolutely great mystery series. And it is so nice to see the heroine and her husband in a loving relationship. One also grows fonder of Uncle Joey the mob boss and of course Ramos his bodyguard. The characters are quirky, lovable, and oh so human. The idea of a formerly normal housewife developing mind reading capacity and then getting shoehorned into helping a mob boss is brilliant. I am looking forward to reading the entire series.

I requested to receive this book in exchange for a review through Audiobook Jukebox after having read and listened to the first two books in this, the Shelby Nichols Adventures, series by Colleen Helme. This series revolves around a housewife and mother of two who has acquired the "super power" to read minds. This ability, known by a very few, allows her to willingly help the police solve crimes and not-so-willingly help a local mob boss know who is loyal and who isn't. Someday soon, I suspect she will also help her attorney husband, but that hasn't come to fruition yet. This series is a light read mystery/suspense and each book is stand-alone. When previous events or former characters are mentioned, the author does a good job filling the reader in on the relevant highlights from a previous book without overwhelming the reader with a long non relevant summary. Also, the author does a fine job keeping the multiple story lines separate and distinct -- it seems that there is a story line related to a case of her husband's, a story line with the mob boss and another relating to s case being investigated by the police. Sometimes two of the story lines are related and the author brings them together smoothly. Each audio book in the series is approximately 8 1/2 hours (the books are a slightly under 300 pages in length) and are all narrated by Wendy Tremont King. She does a fine job reading and giving each character his or her own voice. She also reads consistently from one book to the next -- keeping the pace similar and the different voices similar from one book to the next.I would recommend this to all readers enjoying mystery and suspense as well as those who like a lighter read with amiable characters. This would be a good book/series to listen to on a long drive, enough going on for the whole family to enjoy and nothing truly inappropriate for young adults (a quick death or two in each book and loving parents, but nothing explicit or "R" rated).

“Lie or Die” is a MUST READ!!!I absolutely loved reading “Lie or Die” by Colleen Helme!!! I was impressed with the intricacies of the book, and was amazed by how everything turned out! There were so many twists and turns and I was kept guessing until the end. Shelby is such a great character! I’m happy she’s come into her own and can really use her mind reading ability to help others, and once again, get herself out of some sticky situations. All of the characters are well-developed and consistent throughout the series, not only in their actions, but also in their thoughts! I’ve grown fond of each character and feel like I know them personally. I’m glad Shelby still has to work for Uncle Joey…and it helped that Ramos was in it too! I also like Chris more and more. I can sympathize with him. I know I wouldn’t want anyone reading my mind! Although I think he’s beginning to take it all in stride and I know that he really loves and cares about Shelby.Although this series is definitely fantastical, it has a sense of realism to it. The characters are believable, and the stories are fun and full of mystery and mischief at the same time. I love books that let me escape my reality, and give me something fun to look forward to. Colleen’s books definitely do this. I found myself laughing out loud several times throughout the series! “Lie or Die” is no different! This is a fantastic read, and I recommend it to anyone who loves a fun, well-written, laugh out loud book!

Lie or Die: A Shelby Nichols Adventure Book 3 is another fantastic adventure with Shelby, Chris, Uncle Joey (not really her uncle), Ramos, and detective Dimples (not his real name).I adore the characters in this series. They are full of personality and spunk. Each character is continuing to develop and even when they get themselves into unbelievable situations they make it seem plausible. I would have a hard time picking a favorite character because I enjoy them all.Shelby is finally embracing her mind reading abilities and using them to make a difference in the world. She has decided to open her own “consulting” agency. Her husband, Chris, has justified concerns about this new venture. It isn’t long before Shelby finds herself having to jungle new business responsibilities with Uncle Joey’s and the local police department need for her “special” skills, carpool days, and trying to decide what to cook for dinner. This is a great series to read or listen to. Wendy Tremont King does a fantastic job with narration. The audiobook quality is very good and she brings the characters to life by given each one a unique voice. She is very easy to listen to and is a great compliment to Colleen Helme’s great writing. If you love mystery, suspense, and great characters that make you laugh then this is a series you don’t want to miss. Start with book 1, Carrots. You don’t want to miss out on the story of how Shelby received her “gift”.

It can't be easy knowing what everyone is thinking around you. Shelby Nichols knows the consequences all too well. The third book in her series has her rushing around trying to help everyone. What a busy stay at home mom between helping a bank manager find stolen money, helping "Uncle" Joey with his business, trying to keep her husband from being threatened at his job, helping the police, and still having time to pick up her children and plan a vacation is super impressive.I think she's dealing with her abilities well. During the second book I wasn't sure if I approved but now I realize she's learning and taking her skills in stride. I love it. Still completely unpredictable. I have no idea where she's going to be off to next. Not to mention the picture frame incident was hilarious.Shelby quickly grew on me and I'm hoping this isn't the last I'll see of her. Ramos is one of my favorite characters as well so hopefully, I see him more often as well. Too fun. Comedy, drama, suspense, it's all in there. You won't be disappointed.

This series just gets better and better! This book begins with Shelby starting her new agency and looking to find the stolen money for which the bank has hired her. We get to see her in action, which is fun, humorous, and exciting. We also run into Uncle Joey, Dimples, and my favorite, Ramos. This book kept me guessing to the very end as to how Shelby was going to manage everything on her plate, and keep from getting killed. I loved how her relationship evolved with her husband Chris, mostly because I can't imagine how hard it would be to be married to someone who could read my mind. I also found myself laughing out loud, and cheering for all of my favorite characters. Uncle Joey really shines here, and he has one of the best lines in the book! I won't give it away, but it was awesome! You don't have to read the other books to enjoy this one, but with such a great series, it would be a shame not to! Read it! You'll be glad you did.

Loved this book! Vaguely reminiscent of the Stephanie Plum series, but Shelby is definitely a unique character in her own right! This was such a lighthearted book, and a quick and easy read. The only thing that probably could be better is the cover. Anyone (and I admit, at times I am guilty of this) who judges a book by its cover may make the mistake of passing this awesome book up, which would be a shame since its sooo great! If the cover were a bit more intriguing to look at, this would be a homerun! Regardless of the cover however, I completely recommend this book. Five stars all the way and excellent job Ms. Helme! *** UPDATE 9/12/13*** NEW COVER IS SUPER AWESOME! Absolutely love it!

Lots more awesome adventure for Shelby and I love how she is coming more into her one with regards to her mind reading abilities and helping people also speaking her mind with uncle joey she really is coming out of her house wife shell and rocking it. Chris also surprised me more in this book he is coming around to lovingly accept Shelbys gift more and being more supportive even when she worries him sick...lol

Just finished this morning. I enjoy this series of books. I'm a fan of books that add a small edge to normal life and make things different. The plot continued to build on hanging threads from previous books and the characters are still enjoyable overall.

This is the 3rd book in the Shelby Nichols Adventures that began with [Carrots]. The author lets her imagination fly and gets her heroine in and out of many absurd and fantastical situations for her local mob boss, while keeping her lawyer husband somewhat informed of the life and death happenings occurring around her.I enjoyed the escapism of the story but could only rate this 3 stars not because of the fantastical elements but because the tone is anti-woman and this is the type of tale that a young adult would pick up for entertainment and not with a thought to any underlying message.

Awesome SeriesShelby's adventures with her ability to read minds is awesome. I love this book because it not only has great characters but multiple plot lines. Shelby is working on cases for the mob boss, for the police, for the FBI, and for her newly established consulting business. The action is non-stop. The pace is fast, and the cases flow together seamlessly. I loved this book.

DimplesI love these characters. This story is so funny I have to stop just to catch my breath. Shelby is still trying to manage everything. I don't know how she does what she does buying is working out. Ramos is intense and then Uncle Joey is manipulative and then her involvement with the police. I think she is to kind hearted. I hope her business works out.

Shelby finds herself busier than ever. She works for the police, the mob and also has her own consulting business. With thoughts coming at her from all angles, it’s taking her all her time to keep things straight. Here’s hoping she can keep out of trouble this time!

So much going on!Shelby is very busy in this book, starting her own business, as well as helping the police, FBI, her mobster boss, not to mention helping her husband in the courtroom. It rather seemed like too many thing at once. But it was still fun read.

It looks like Chris is having a big issue about Shelby having these abilities. At least she is being proactive in the matter. Shelby is good because If it were me I would have slept on the couch.I swear Shelby is a magnet for trouble and I would have stuck with wearing black.I really dislike Kate and do not trust her as far as I can throw her.

I received this book for free from Audiobook Jukebox in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. My Initial Reaction... I continue to enjoy Shelby's adventures! Lie or Die was a bit more active detective work on Shelby's part than the others and I loved seeing her solve her cases! The Narration... Wendy Tremont King IS Shelby for me at this point. Her voice just matches the personality perfectly. Otherwise, she's an okay narrator. I'm not blown away by her male voices - they lack a bit of masculinity as female narrators often do, but they are not bad at all. There we no accents to trip her up like in the last book, so this was a more solid read for me. The Characters... Shelby is THE reason to read this series. In Lie or Die I got more of the spunky, honest-to-a-fault, suburban housewife turned detective. I particularly love Shelby's inner dialogue when she's thinking about what she'd LIKE to do to someone and the ways she talked herself out or into doing those things. She's up against a PI in Lie or Die and he keeps following her around - making himself a nuisance - and I laughed my ass off seeing Shelby interact with him and deal with him. She's got quite the personality. My favorite thing about the characters in Lie or Die was the personal development on the part of Chris - Shelby's husband - and, as a consequence, their marriage. He's been struggling, as I imagine any husband would, with Shelby's ability to read his mind. But what has bothered me in the previous books were the things Shelby would hear... Chris didn't see her as the strong woman she is. But in Lie or Die I think he's finally getting it. Sure, he's still super protective of her, but he's also letting her be super protective of him. They're much more of a team, even if Shelby still has to hide things from him (I LOVE the way she rationalizes when to lie to him BTW. It felt very familiar). The result is my loving their relationship that much more! The Story... So with Lie or Die Shelby's finally opened her own private consulting business! We've seen this coming since book 1 and I felt really giddy when I realized it was finally happening. Shelby's case is to find the missing money from the bank robbery we learned about in Fast Money and Lie or Die took on a stronger detective feel than the previous books for this reason. Shelby's having to actively find and put together clues - and she's good at it! I have to say, I worried that this would make me like the series less since I am NOT your procedural girl. But Lie or Die never felt procedural - probably because of Shelby's personality and the mix of family life. Of course, there's always more going on in Shelby's world than just one case. As usual, she's also working with the police. This time Dimples has called her in to help with an FBI (or was it CIA? IDK, all the same to me...) case and it definitely upped the stakes. I love seeing Shelby working with the police, since this is where we get to see some truly great moments where her abilities do good for people, rather than corporations or the mob.Speaking of Uncle Joey - he's landed in it again too - and what do you know, this time the problem's are pulling in Chris! The case he's working on involves Uncle Joey and as a result, he's facing threats and real danger. I loved this twist because now more than ever Chris is learning to work with Shelby, rather than fighting her powers. Concluding Sentiments... All-in-all Lie or Die was another great installment in the Shelby Nichols Adventures and I can't wait to see what messes Shelby lands in next time!

AudioBook Review:Stars: Overall: 4 Narration: 5 Story: 4 The third installment of Helme's series that features Shelby Nichols, Lie or Die, has Shelby in the middle of yet another kerfuffle...to our delight.I’ve enjoyed this series mostly for the humor and the utterly honest and likable character of Shelby: if she were withholding or dishonest, or not truly invested in making things “right”, this story would not work as well. And, you have to appreciate her dedication to her husband Chris, and their continued efforts to communicate and deal with Shelby’s particular and peculiar new ‘gift’: their relationship has its ups and downs that are honestly portrayed and feel possible. In this book Shelby has decided to use her ability to ‘hear’ what people think to start her own business. Her first client is a bank that was robbed, and she has the germ of a clue to start tracking down the culprit. Of course, the bank that has hired her has no idea of her gift, merely believing that she has premonitions and has worked with the police to bring others to justice. Again, Shelby is narrated to great effect by Wendy Tremont King, and she has managed to keep the nuances that inform the character’s voices and Shelby’s internal monologue steady and utterly distinct. Her voice brings Shelby to life, and what continues to amaze me is that she apparently has no issues with crafting the other character voices to sound similar (if not exactly the same) as in earlier works. A true asset to this series – audio listeners need not worry about the feel of the characters in this narration. I do have to take a moment to express my extreme sympathies for Chris, the long-suffering husband and ultimately best cheerleader for Shelby, even when she has pushed him to the edge by being reckless, or waiting to tell him of pending issues because she tries to sort them herself. I can’t imagine being with someone who can hear your every thought, even those that are fleeting, and he deserves kudos for not completely freaking out at every moment, and being willing to discuss the questions that Shelby has when she overhears (inadvertently or not) his thoughts. If you want a fun series that has some twisty if not overly complex mysteries, characters to enjoy and moments to laugh, this is the story for you.I received an AudioBook copy from the publisher for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

4 STARSI am still enjoying reading this series. Of the 4 so far I have read Trapped by revenge has more humor. This has a lot of the same elements that the other books have. Danger, mystery, humor, romance, good guys and bad guys (You have to like a few of the bad guys)a touch of paranormal, violence and a clean read.Shelby in Carrots was shot in head and ever since she can read minds. It gets her into a lot of trouble when bad guys want to use her talents. Shelby was being forced to work with local mob boss Uncle Joey when he found out her secret. She works with local detective Harris or (dimples) when she can. Shelby tells him she gets premonitions when around people. I like the characters. Shelby & Chris (her lawyer husband) are raising two teenagers. Chris has had a hard time with his wife knowing what is going on in his mind all the time. Now someone has beaten up one of the lawyers who was working on the case with Chris and threatening him.Uncle Joey is local mob boss. He has come to care about Shelby. Someone is trying to take over some of his businesses. He likes the advantage Shelby gives him.Ramos his Uncle Joey right handman and bodyguard. He has come to care about Shelby and keeps rescuing her. I like Ramos and even Joey.Shelby is also working to find bank money that was stolen over a year ago. One of the thieves was murdered in court before he could give out the name of his partner.I like these stories they are entertaining. Some parts seem over the top. You think it would be great to read minds but it really would cause a lot more problems. Shelby is trying to help when she can.Sadly their is only one more book in this series that I have not read. Secrets That Kill.

Shelby has her first big job as a consultant when the make who was robbed found out that she helps the police. She now has to try and find out who stole the money and the private investigator who was on the job before is not happy. He follows her everywhere trying to get in on the score as he wants his cut for finding the money. Meanwhile, Chris is being threatened and the guy he is defending works for Uncle Joey some how and so Shelby is once again working with Uncle Joey. For once though she is happy to have such resourceful people keeping her and her family safe. Shelby is realizing that her gift of mind reading can come in handy but be a burden as well. It's one adventure after another and you never know what is going to happen when Shelby is involved! I think Lie or Die is my favorite of the three I have listened to so far and can't wait for the next one. Lie or Die was face paced and full of humor and we get to see how Chris is really starting to embrace Shelby's mind reading and have a lot of fun with it. I love that these novels feature a married woman who really cares about her family. Still loving the secondary characters, Ramos and Uncle Joey are pretty funny at times. I know you shouldn't like a bad guy but he can be a pretty good guy when he needs to be, but still you always know that he is still Joey "the knife".Great characters a fun, fast paced plot, so if your into cozy mystery type reads then give the Shelby Nichols series a try! I think you will like it! :)4.5 rating on my blog.

The third book in the Shelby Nichols Adventures is even more exiting than the last. She has officially set up her consulting business, but she doesn't suspect that one of her first customers will be her husband. Something isn't right in Uncle Joey's world and she knows she will be pulled in to help with that, but when there is an overlap between his problems and the threat against her husband, she steps us with no hesitation even in the face of personal danger. Humor makes the suspense bearable and keeps the overall feel fairly light; I loved the motorcycle scene. Sorry if that is a spoiler, but I don't think so. I am looking forward to reading the next two books, Trapped by Revenge and Secrets That Kill.

This is the 3rd book in the series, and it had been a while since I read the 2nd one, and I really appreciated the way the author 'reminded' you of past characters. She did a fantastic job actually, because I've read a few series, and they all 're-tell' the story. She didn't. It was peppered along the way, and that was great! I am anxious to read #4 now, knowing it won't re-tell the stories I've read.I was hesitant to read this one, thinking it would be the same as #2, because, well, our main protagonist can read minds, so same thing all over again? No, yes, not really. I liked the mystery it had, love Dimples & Ramos - and tells enough of the story, to be a story, no extra fluff to fill pages. Definitely an author I'll continue reading.

This was a free series of books. I enjoyed all of them. The main character hits her head, and when she comes to, she can read minds., and this gets her into a lot of trouble. She gets into working with one of the towns crime bosses, she also works for the police, the FBI, her husband's law firm, and for a local bank. In this book she has to work to save her husband's life, as he is working on a case that is in court, and people want the lawyer to lose the case. The crime boss has a soft spot for her, and he keeps saving her life. In this book the husband is starting to appreciate his wife's mind reading. This is a fun read.

This book, 'Lie or Die' took me on quite a journey. So much is happening throughout the story that in turn, makes this a great read. I loved the storyline. Shelby is quite the lead. She has a great personality. I often thought that reading minds would be a great gift. Yet after reading this, I'm pretty sure it would become a curse for me. I had not read the book or books prior in this series, but I wasn't lost on the story as a whole. The array of characters throughout we're great. They all added to the story. This book is a recommended read. I look forward to reading more in this series.
