I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review...2.5 stars rounded up ... Just OK, I'm a little confusedI didn't 'get' ANYBODY in this book. Our MC is Brad. Back in his hometown for the first time in years for his 10 year high school reunion, he is determined to come out to his best friend Jimmy (Who I was originally hoping was the other MC as I love GFY and best friend to lover tropes...but that was not to be *sad eyes*)It takes a while before we meet MC number two but we have Jimmy to entertain us with his mixed up behavior...seems like Jimmy is supposed to be a together grownup with a house and everything but he acts about twelve (His reasons for getting married are ridiculous, he almost acts homophobic at times and (view spoiler)[ he kissed Brad to find out whether or not he is missing out on something? WTF?... just WTF! (hide spoiler)])Then we have a couple love candidates show up for Brad to choose from:Blind date Wendy (Wendell) Model ready to be taken seriously *see my serious face?*School days crush Phil (view spoiler)[(why was he even here? brief bathroom encounter then "how about a date" ...then wooooosh never heard from again)(hide spoiler)]I did not feel anything for anybody in this book (other than sorry for Jimmy's girl). Nor did I feel like anybody here cared about anybody else. Even BFF Jimmy did not come across as a guy anybody would want to be friends with. This is billed in the blurb as a 'comedic romance' but I didn't really find anything funny (or especially romantic either). There were no laugh out loud moments for me.

I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The story was okay. It was cute in its way. I had a lot of issues with this book - I don't know where to start. I didn't like most of the characters - they were just off. Brad and Jimmy have been friends since they were kids, but after college went their own way. Brad is back in town for their high school reunion and Brad has decided to tell Jimmy he's gay. Not because he has been in love with Jimmy or anything, but because he can't stand to lie to his friend. I didn't buy how Brad decided to break the news to Jimmy. He told the man like 10 minutes after arriving! He just blurted it out, with no lead in or any kind of gentleness. Just bam! And Jimmy gives all appearances of being okay with this abrupt change in his friend. Later Jimmy mentions he thinks he always suspected. Not sure where that bit of insight came from. (But as the story continues, Jimmy flip flops with his okayness to Brad being gay. It became very hard to read about his constant volleying back and forth.)So Jimmy and his girlfriend cancel the blind date with a woman and arrange one with a gay man, former model Wendell, aka Wendy. I'm fine with that part. It's actually kinda funny. Cancel the order of female, substitute male. :)Wendy and Brad hit it off and make plans to see each other again. Brad and Jimmy attend their school reunion where Brad see's his old crush. They make some eye contact and nudge, nudge, wink, wink, go to the men's room for some hijinks. Except without the conclusion. What is up with Brad? He's made plans to see Wendy again yet he's in the bathroom sucking face with this other guy? I get that Wendy and Brad just met so they have no commitment and are free to do what they want but if Brad's with this other guy at the reunion, doesn't that mean his attraction or interest in Wendy isn't that strong? Just my opinion. This part of the story really didn't add anything and I missed the point - we never see this other guy again.(view spoiler)[After the reunion when they get back to Jimmy's, in a drunken moment Jimmy kisses Brad because he "has to know." Not sure what he has to know but apparently he wants to be sure that Brad isn't the love of his life (please!) and that he isn't missing out on anything. Didn't like this part because Jimmy is ready to propose to his girlfriend. After Brad pushes Jimmy away and tells him to go to bed, Brad "felt like crying. He was even shaking, so he lay in a fetal position under the blankets." Uh, why? It was a kiss, not like he was almost raped by his best friend, not even close. Totally wanted to smack Brad and tell him to grow a pair. His angst totally over the top, but the next day all is well like Brad hadn't just had a breakdown.(hide spoiler)]The reactions each character had to different situations was often over the top and completely inappropriate for what had just happened. I get that certain feelings were trying to be conveyed, but 0-60 is some very hard whiplash to handle, and there is a lot of that in this book. When Wendy and Brad go on a date hiking in the mountains, Brad twists his ankles and basically loses a day in recovery because he was "too drugged up on painkillers." I've never heard of that. I have heard that a sprained ankle can hurt more than a break, but I find it hard to believe he was given that powerful of a pain killer for 2 sprained ankles that he loses a whole day! There was also no sex. There was the lead up to sex, but then it fades to black and you get the afterglow. This is not what I read MM romance for! I want the fully experience here! The lead up was okay, kinda of cringe worthy at times, but the after glow cuddle was nice. We are given the impression that Wendy will someday move to Chicago where Brad lives and they will be together. Brad has yet to tell his parents that he is gay. When he sprained his ankles, I assume he told his mom because Jimmy spoke to her at the end of the book when she expressed concern about Brad driving back home alone. Jimmy - not realizing Brad hasn't told his parents - let's the cat out of the bag and the book ends with Jimmy complaining to Brad that he didn't know he hadn't told his parents yet.I appreciate the authors attempt with writing this book - I do understand how hard the process is. It could have benefited from other's reading this before it was published so some of these issues could have been altered into a more fitting place.

This book was provided for free by the author in exchange for an honest review. This book starts of a bit awkwardly. For roughly the first half of the book, the scene transitions and dialogue progressions are a bit odd. Like in the beginning of the book when we see Brad arriving in Jamie’s drive, next scene they are already in the house have gone upstairs and are in the guest room, then the next thing you know they are in the kitchen and before you realize it Brad is back in his room. Like the dialogue keeps going but the scene which Brad inhabits has changed three times already. But the entire book is not like this. The writing in the latter half of the book is much smoother and there are no weird transitions. The first 30% of this book is clumsy but after that the story really starts going and becomes quite interesting. I really liked how Brad was so spoilt for choices.Brad is a guy back in his hometown for his high school reunion. He is staying with his best friend Jimmy, the only glitch in the workings being that Jimmy doesn’t know Brad is gay. And from here on ensues a tale of quite comic proportions when Brad’s coming out is quite unbelievably well received…Half way through the book I had really come to like the book. Brad is a reserved kind of guy but he is quite cute. I liked the fact that his coming out was so uneventful. I guess the whole coming out in 2014 thing is just to show that there has been a change in perceptions and people are more accepting. It seems to herald the fact that times are changing. But more than a tale of coming out, this book is a romance in which Brad finds his happily-ever-after. Personally I liked the back and forth that is happening for much of the book and how everything works out in the end. This book has quite a few moments that elicit quiet snickering. Overall I really liked the book, it was refreshing, funny, cute, and it brought a smile on my face.

Brad returns home from Chicago to attend his high school reunion in Wyoming. He's curious about his old classmates, but mostly he's a bit anxious about coming out to his best friend Jimmy who's never left the small town they grew up in.Jimmy is at first unphased by Brad's news and he and his fiance even go so far as to reorganize the blind date that they'd set up for him. Seems that they know a Wendy that may be just perfect for him. Wendy, (AKA Wendell) is an ex-model who's come to Sheridan from a successful career in California. But Brad may have other choices as he ends the reunion night having been kissed by no less than three men. Seems Sheridan may not be the behind the times backwater that Brad had considered it. Are Brad and Wendell destined for more than just a fling? It's tough to say when neither is "at home" in Sheridan and normally live thousands of miles apart... but perhaps it's kismet. This is a lightning fast, light-hearted read that felt more like a short story than a novella and its post gay aesthetic is evident despite being set in conservative, small-town, Sheridan Wyoming. Both Brad and Wendell are left a bit undeveloped but they're both likeable and even the brash Jimmy is an appealing character. Perhaps a longer treatment would give the author time to develop these guys' characters and their backstories more. Even a bit more about Sheridan would be welcome. *** Note: I received a copy of this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest and impartial review ***

This wasn't my first exposure to Gerry Pirani's work. I really like the author's debut novel, The Search for Intelligent Life on Earth, so I was curious to see what this one was like. Although much lighter than Search for Intelligent Life, I was not disappointed. Once again Pirani created characters I cared about and an interesting story line. Highly recommend.

I've really enjoyed this easy read Novella. In such a short span of time you really get the beat of the characters personalities. Gerry Pirani brings this love story to a warm comfortable place in the heart. I look forward to other Novellas and books written by Gerry.

**I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**I am a sucker for the premise behind this book. Guy returns to hometown after a long time away... finds romance... etc., etc. That being said, the book is not without its issues. Brad returns to Sheridan for a high school reunion, to see his best friend, and to come out to him. Well, Brad gets a little more than he expected to. I liked the fact that the book did not go where I expected it to. I thought for sure he would end up with(view spoiler)[ Jimmy... then possibly Phil--though I did think there was an opportunity to be explored with the latter... (hide spoiler)]. But nope, I was wrong, and that's always a good thing, imho. There is a lot of "telling" in this book. The reader is told how Brad feels. Told what is happening. We aren't really "shown" it, which in turn makes it harder to relate and become invested. I wanted my own heart to race along with Brad's... but there wasn't enough build up for me to get caught up in the romance.I enjoyed the supporting cast. Lanie was a hoot; Jimmy the "dumb jock" best friend... the ending was sweet-- and open ended. There was room left for the story to continue. And I think that would be a good thing. I'd like to see the characters explored a little more and see how desperate they really get for each other. =)

*Disclaimer: a free copy of the book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review“The desperate usually succeed because they have nothing to lose.” - Jodi Picoult, Vanishing Acts Brad returns to his hometown for a high school reunion. he stays at his childhood friend Jimmy's place who does not know that he is gay. Brad decides to come out and face the music. what happens next is not quite what Brad expects especially in a podunk town like Sheridan, Wyoming. light with a hint of comedy are a couple of things i liked about this novelette. Brad's confession to his best friend was the catalyst that spurred on the events in the story which surprised our MC Brad. however, i found it too short and left much to be desired. there was nothing wrong with the writing, pacing or plot. it was just the length that i had a "problem" with. just when i was beginning to get to know the players and was getting excited over Brad and Wendell's budding romance, things ended abruptly! if there would be a sequel, i would want to know and would welcome it so. there has to be something in the pipeline and i think, i would not be the only reader desperately wishing for one.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.Brad and Jimmy have been friends forever. After a long absence, Brad returns to Sheridan, Wyoming for his high school reunion and finally gathers enough nerve to tell Jimmy he is gay. While Brad and Jimmy work through the impact Brad's confession has on their relationship, Brad meets Wendell, a male model, who has recently moved to Sheridan from Los Angeles. Can Brad and Wendell make a serious connection, or is Wendell just desperate for sex while he is in Sheridan? It's a good read but not quite four stars. There were just a few things that did not ring true to me. Jimmy's character offers comic relief, but he comes off as childish at times. Brad is full of self-doubt and seems obsessed with the fact that he is "average." Wendell is a bit enigmatic. I liked the story, but wondered at times what Wendell saw in Brad. Besides his good looks, Wendell seemed too well adjusted to be bothered with Brad's mixed messages. Brad seemed to come with a lot of baggage for what essentially was a tryst with someone who was in town only a few days. I would like to hear more of Wendell's story. All in all, I recommend Desperate in Sheridan if you are looking for a quick, amusing read.

Jimmy and Brad are best friends so Brad decides it's time to tell Jimmy he's gay. This seems to be the entire premise of the book. What happens after Brad's confession could have been a very interesting read given how abruptly and soon into the book it's revealed. Unfortunately, the story doesn't live up to the promise implied in the first few pages. Brad is more than a bit self conscious and still hurting from being dumped. He shows up in Sheridan for a high school reunion, and when he has to tell his best friend he's gay, Jimmy and his soon to be fiancé replace the female blind date they set him up with for a man. Sparks ensue but misunderstandings muddle the budding relationship. While it could have been a fun read, Desperate in Sheridan is a somewhat confusing read with forced conflict, hurried resolutions and confounding scenes that were not immediately clear or necessary . I wanted to love this book as the blurb intrigued me. Unfortunately, for me, there were too many problems with the unnatural flow of each of the characters voices and motivations, the forced perils of the MC and the unlikely insta-drama as it was written. If that's your cup of tea, enjoy.Note: The author provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I don't know - 4* if compared to all other works, but for a free e-book that's novella-length and delivers exactly what it says - a light (MM) romance - I liked it a lot and would rate it 5*. I like Pirani's work (blogs, etc...), in general, especially The Search For Intelligent Life on Earth. I always learn something. This story was entertaining. It had an interesting mix of straight and gay characters. Jimmy is great. It's a fast and easy read.

*A free copy of the book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.*This story talks about Brad coming home for his ten-year high school reunion and only because his bff Jimmy had begged him to attend. Brad is worried because Jimmy doesn’t know about him being gay and he doesn’t know how he’ll react to this new info. When he confesses to Jimmy his sexual orientation, Jimmy is shocked. He thinks that Brad’s ex Michelle turned him gay. When he finds out that Michelle was a Michael, he doesn’t seem to wrap his mind around it. From there, Jimmy starts to behave strangely towards his bff and even if he’s in love with a wonderful girl called Lanie, Brad notices that Jimmy is jealous. We have different situations where Brad meets his HS’ crush at the reunion and they have a brief moment in the bathroom. Then Brad meets Wendell and there they start to see each other and the rest is history. I can’t surely say that I didn’t get a certain thing (view spoiler)[ He kisses Brad and…When he got back to the dark foyer, though, Jimmy was suddenly in his face.“Whoa.” Brad tried to back up, but Jimmy grabbed him by the waist andpushed him into the wall. The cup fell to the hardwood floor, its contents spreading like a fast leak around Brad’s feet. “What the hell are you doing?”“I need to know,” Jimmy said. He flattened his lips onto Brad’s and broke into his mouth with his tongue for a drunken, slovenly kiss.Brad tried to shove him away, but Jimmy was smashed enough to feel like dead weight. His beard was rough and scratchy against Brad’s reactive skin, and Brad squealed in protest. Finally, Jimmy let him push him off. “Yeah, that’s not going to work for me, either,” Jimmy said with a ring of defeat.“Are you out of your mind?” Brad’s eyes stung from trapped tears, and his breathing was hard.“I’m sorry, buddy. I think I’m going to be sick. Not from you, though. From mixing all those alcohols.”I really wanted Brad to punch him.(hide spoiler)] I really hated that moment. Plus, Jimmy was like he had to decide for Brad and Brad let it. Wendell is a really nice guy and he felt used and not good enough, thanks to Brad and him letting Jimmy treats W. like a nobody. Finally, Brad opens his eyes and knows that Wendell is a really good guy and goes for him.I wish we could have had the chance to see more about Wendell and Brad.3.5 stars

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Gerry Pirani for offering up your story. At first the beginning of the story seems interesting: a meeting of former high school classmates. At the same time, Brad is going to tell his best childhood friend that he is gay, while fearing his reaction... Then his friend and his fiancée try to set him up with Wendell (in lieu of a young woman as they wanted before...).I liked Brad, a little less Wendell. On the other hand, I find this book too short and certain situations seemed to me strange or even incredible. Brad who announces his homosexuality to his friend, just like that barely arrived at his home... (He must try to find a better time to do so). Jimmy who has a fiancée and who embraces Brad... just to know (surprising)! The small interlude that Brad agrees briefly with his former crush while he has just meet Wendell... The ultra-fast relationship (even frantic) which settle between Brad and Wendell... And questions that will remain unanswered at the end of the book.A pleasant story, but it’s lacking of depth and is too short which kept the author to develop the plot and forced him to too precipitate the various events.

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review. This is the story of two best friends, Brad and Jimmy. Brad decides to come out to Jimmy when he travels back to his home town for a class reunion. The story continues from there. Jimmy tries to understand his feelings about Brad being gay. Then Brad makes a couple of love connections. I had a hard time connecting with any of the characters. All of the characters felt over the top to me. Jimmy was supposed to be the comedic part and he was certainly over the top. Brad had no self esteem at all. There was Wendell, the model, Wendy (interchangeable names) and he was extremely gorgeous. There was also (view spoiler)[a strange hookup with guy at the class reunion. I'm not sure why that scene needed to be in there.(hide spoiler)]I did get the connection between Brad and Jimmy but not with Wendell. It needed more development. So of course I would love to say that it was the most awesome, funny, sexy book ever.....but I can't.

I think I know where the author of this short story was aiming to go: I think she wanted to write a light-hearted romance and, at the same time, show us some common mistakes we tend to do when trying to have a relationship with meaningul ones, be they lovers, prospective lovers or even friends. The problem is that the "didactic" part outshines the fictional one: the characters are stereotyped and not entirely likeable. The main one, Brad, is stiff, quite prudish and he does not evolve into a more easy-going and likeable man. He remains prudish, very stiff and rather unlikeable throughout the too short plot, making the reader think there might have been good reason for him to meet only j***s in his love life.

I was given a free copy of this book in return for an unbiased review.I loved the premise of this book. Childhood friend comes back for school reunion and stays with his best friend. Friend then meets another guy who he starts seeing. Best friend thinks he might be gay.My main issue with this book was it was way too short. Nothing seemed to be developed. There were several unanswered questions at the end. Is Jimmy gay? Did Wendell move to Chicago to be with Brad? This book is really crying out to be a longer novel where these issues could be explored.

Meant as a casual, fun, and light read, this MM e-romance is a story about coming out in contemporary times. Currently a FREE download. Meeting the love of his life in Sheridan, WY, was not on Brad's agenda. He had merely intended to tell his best friend from childhood that he's gay. See what surprises are in store and if the Wild West is lucky for Brad or not. Non-formulaic. Not like the more literary, cross-genre series I'm writing, not as intense, somewhat experimental.

Huh, pretty good story and likable writing, but I just can't find any depth from the characters nor the plot.
