4.5 star rating.Contrary to what I believed this book had no BDSM. I nice switch in the vampire world with blood slaves and I instantly took a liking to Rowan. It's just too damn bad that in order for Rowan to find the love he looked for, hoped for with Brett he had to make an ultimate sacrifice in order to obtain it. But not by his choosing. See what and why. I was intrigued.

**4.5**I loved this story and most especially Rowan with all his want and need and confusion and angst. I never expected to fall for him so hard in the beginning but by the end I was rooting for him to have everything he wanted. This was a different kind of love story and a different kind of vampire story than I'd read before and I really enjoyed the plot and characters. It was well-written and I think that's why the abundance of sex didn't irritate me like it does in some shorter books - don't get me wrong, I like sex in my books but it has to intertwined in a good story and definitely was in this case. I'm on to then next in the series.

I enjoyed reading this take on a vampire society and the romance between Rowan and Brett. I wasn't sure how the author was going to extract Rowan from the situation he found himself in with Theron. I think what happened worked, but I felt Brett accepted things too easily. I would have liked to see a bit more depth to their reconciliation. This story definitely made me want to read to the next book in the series,Iron Man .

*smacks head against wall* it's official. a witch has put a Bad Book Curse on me. (he says, after reading like three bad books. i'm getting melodramatic. this is what happens when you listen to copious amounts of morrissey.) i was looking forward to this one, because vampires!! gay sex!! they're two of my favourite things, there's no way this could go wrong!!incorrect. the focus in the book was on rowan, human blood-slave to a vampire, and a guy he falls in love with called brett. except, he can't be with brett because of his possessive asshole of a vampire master. this did not float my boat for many reasons, one of the main ones being that i was expecting a book about vampires. this was more like your average m/m contemporary drama romance with vampires thrown in as an afterthought. it's not really a vampire book. i feel like the vampire aspect was just there to spice it up a little (dare i say... vamp it up a little?), but sadly, there was not enough vampire action to salvage the thin characters, thin plot, thin everything. alright, so it's an erotica. maybe i shouldn't be expecting a lot. but still, erotica or no, flat narrative and flat characters are unforgivable in any genre. sorry. i would probably have liked this a lot more if the focus was on the actual vampires. and if the writing was better. (i swear, the same words were repeated over and over again and it was driving me crazy. like twilight and edward's fucking endless "snickering".)

This is a thing I often say but somehow this time it is a particular disappointment. It is not easy to step into this subgenre, M/M vampire, that has been inflected in every possible way. Yet, without even trying to invent anything new, Ms Waters manages to create a maintain a narrative steam that is not everywhere to be found. The usual vampire/human interaction is interesting and when it comes to sex and love it becomes sizzling. All this bespeak an uncommon writing talent.Unfortunately talent must be flanked by skill as well.First this novel is far too short and leaves about half of his potential in the pages which have not been written. There is an irritating tendence to overdescribe; some inconsistencies and several clumsy turns of phrase are just as irritating but not as much as a the paragraph's division which is so ill done as not to allow to understand who is speaking/thinking/doing what during interactions, when POV shifts constantly without the reader being able to grasp it.The same obviously mars the sexual encounters: not only what the characters actually do to each other sometimes read a bit hard to achieve but sometimes one also does not understand who is doing what to the other. So much more the pity...

2.5 starsRowan is a human blood slave to a master vampire named Theron. Theron runs a sex club that caters to all types of fetishes for vamps and humans alike. Rowan is content with his relationship with Theron, but realizes something's missing after meeting a human named Brett at the club.Brett is recently divorced and is openly gay. He's hidden it for the last twenty years and is just looking for fun. Little did he know that meeting Rowan would throw all his good intentions out the door. This book started out OK. It was interesting reading about the complex relationship between Rowan and Theron. Rowan was very conflicted after meeting Brett and realizing he wanted more than what he was getting with Theron. Rowan tells Brett that what he and Theron share is complicated and he wasn't kidding. The vamps wish to keep their existence secret. I really felt for Rowan; he was torn between both worlds and realized he would have to give one up. I didn't really connect with either Brett or Theron, though they were OK as characters. There was a decision made toward the end of the book that didn't work for me. It just seemed rushed and unresolved. It was not what I was expecting, though I plan to read the next one in the series.

This one certainly started off with a bang. I love when books start off with sex. At least then I know if the sex is going to be hot or not or if it's going to be fade to black. I'm usually leery of shorts since they tend to feel rushed and they typically involve insta-love, but I didn't feel either of those things in this one. I felt a real connection between Rowan and Brett, and their chemistry was off the charts. The only thing keeping me from giving this 5 stars was the ending. It didn't feel rushed, but I was upset with Tac/Theron for forcing Rowan into something he didn't want. He seemed to really care about Rowan, as much as a vampire can care about someone anyway, through the entire book, but that decision made me think he didn't care at all. I also felt like some things still needed to be answered, and maybe they are in the next book, but I wanted to know what Brett decided about the blood slave/vampire thing. It did end happily, but I wanted to know more than the ending gave us.

Just read this and really enjoyed it. Wouldn't mind reading more in this series. It's a fresh take on the vampire/human slave trope and the conflict Rowan feels when he falls in love with a human who doesn't even know vampires exist was well handled.I loved the bit where Brett's trying to put up a sling in his apartment and realizes he needs building maintenance to help; that was a great dash of realism and humor.

I don’t know about the Ice Man, but I sure melted *gulps* Anyone else feeling the heat? *looks around* No? Sorry, must just be me then *winks*As a PNR-loving reader, I’m always on the lookout for a new take on vampire mythology. My only grumble with this story was that it was over much too quickly for my liking, but as you know, I’m greedy like that *shrugs* I literally devoured this story, and felt a little bereft at the end. I didn’t want to leave this new world I had discovered. Well, who would? Smoking-hot guys, kinky *whistles*… need I go on?All it takes is one look across the bar for Rowan’s life to be turned upside down. And, let me tell you, that is saying something coming from this bartender who works in a fetish club, and also just happens to be a blood slave to a very powerful vampire *snorts*Rowan knows his attraction to Brett is a complication he could do without. Especially, considering his pesky addiction to Theron’s blood kiss, but he’s finally found something and someone he wants for his own. Brett was just looking for some fun – of the adult kind. Only, it looks like he might have finally found the one thing that has eluded him in his life so far; the love of a good man.The connection between Rowan and Brett was palpable. These two together are sizzling, a.k.a. fried brain cells *smirks* I had everything crossed, that when push came to shove, they would make the right decisions.I freely admit that Theron fascinates me – I need to know more about what makes this vampire tick. It looks like I have a new obsession…Note: Copy kindly received from publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Ice Man starts off the series Blood Slaves by author Kyann Waters. This book was previously published and I cannot see any significant changes to the original work. This book really sets us up into the world of blood slaves and vampires. There is quite a bit of information that will carry on in other books. I liked that though there is a ton of information, the story itself did not suffer for it. Nice arc to the story and solid writing. Always a plus when I am reading a book. The love story itself is rather complicated in this story.Rowan owes his vampire Theron a lot. Without him he would have been dead. He is a very willing blood slave. But what happens when a blood slave falls for someone who isn't the vampire they are feeding? Theron has strong feelings for Rowan. But Rowan his heart is taken by Brett.Brett is a anything goes type of guy. Rowan is the bartender at the catacombs. Brett wants him but Rowan isn't sure he can handle just what really goes on in the basement. These two walk a fine line for most of the book. It is fun to see the entire love story unfold and learn about some exceptionally gifted vampires. When you want a paranormal with a ton of twists and turns in it this is the story to pick up. Five Shooting Stars

The story was too short and the insta love didn't feel real. To meet someone and almost immediately walk away from the person you were with for sevens years just did sit right with me. I think that whole exchange could have been done better. I laughed when Brett called for maintenance to come install the swing that was funny. I had issues with barebacking without any discussion between Rowan and Brett. You've known each other less than 24 hours and Rowan you decide to throw away your humanity after saying no for 7 years. That was dumb. But I can see the start of a lasting relationship here. I feel sorry for Tac.ARC rec'd from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I’m going to just say this isn’t what I was expecting, and it didn’t work for me, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good story.First, it’s very dark and the relationship Theron and Rowan share is disconcerting at best and affected my enjoyment of the rest of the story.Second, there’s a TON of sex in this – and that’s great if that’s what you’re in the mood for.Third, I did like the HFN/HEA that we get at the end – Rowan does finally make some changes that lead to him and Brett having a more “healthy” relationship but – for me – it was a bit “day late, dollar short” kind of feeling. This is the beginning of a series, and though it looks like each book has it’s own MCs, perhaps the bond between Rowan and Brett gets seen in a better light? I’m not sure. In any case, though this isn’t exactly BDSM, it was too --- much--- for me.While I can’t recommend it, I’m not going to give it a bad rating – I’ll settle for a 3 of 5 stars because the writing was good and the story interesting, the romance just wasn’t strong enough for me.

*I voluntarily read a review copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else's*3.5 stars This was an intriguing yet enjoyable erotic read. Ronan is instantly attracted to Brett but being a blood slave to a possessive vampire makes things more complicated. Will Roran find a way to be with Brett? The chemistry between Brett and Ronan was explosive. They complemented each other really well. At times, the story felt rushed especially, towards the end. This was a short, well written book and the characters were developed quite well despite its length.

This is the first book I have read by this author. The book was a good read. Very fast paced and easy to follow. If you are a fan of vampires and gay romance you will probably enjoy this book. Rowan is a blook slave for a very old and powerful vampire. This arrangement has worked well for Rowan over the years, if it hadn't been for Theron Rowan would have probably died on the streets. Now he has a great job he loves, a nice home and car and a powerful and sexy vampire who craves him blood and body. He never knew he wanted anything more until the night Brett walked into the sex club where Rowan bartends. The attraction is immediately mutual, Rowan has never felt this way about any of the clubs members and has even be titled 'Ice Man' for his lack of interest in the members and their numerous offers. Brett isn't looking for anything, just needing to blow off some steam. He has just recently divorced after living a life of lies. He isn't completely out to everyone in his life so for now a casual hook up is all he is interested in, until the moment Rowan kisses him. Sparks fly and all bets are off.Rowan and Brett fall fast and hard for each other but Rowan is keeping part of his life a secret. How can he expect to keep Brett as long as he is a blood slave for Theron and would he even believe Rowan if he tried to describe the world he is living in.

2 1/2 star review.......I’m a huge fan of Vampire stories, but my first read by KyAnn Waters is average at best; and while the passion between the main couple is definitely explosive, the story as a whole felt lacking.Maybe the length prevented the author from going more into depth about the characters and their decision making process; food for thought in future books. That said, I will give this series another go and see if the next instalment has more to offer.

My review cross-posted from Joyfully Reviewed: is nothing more powerful than the high that comes from feeding a vampire. At least that’s the case for Rowan Huntington, blood slave to Master Vampire Theron. Rowan is content with his life, both feeding and having sex with the sensual Theron and working as a flair bartender at Theron’s club, The Catacombs. But Rowan’s peaceful existence comes crashing down around his ears when he meets Brett Kirsch.Newly divorced and out of the closet Brett isn’t looking for more than the kinky sex he can get at the secretive men’s fetish club, The Catacombs. All that changes when he first lays eyes on Rowan.Neither man can use the complications their attraction to one another provides, but the call to be with each other is too much to resist. More powerful even than Rowan’s desire to be a blood slave. The problem is, Theron doesn’t want to let Rowan go. Can Rowan trust in Brett and their burgeoning relationship enough to risk his life to be with the man he loves?Power and pleasure weave a seductive spell in this enthralling story by KyAnn Waters. Ice Man starts off Ms. Waters’s Blood Slaves series with a burst of energy and I can’t wait to see where she takes things from here. I loved Rowan and Brett. Brett has lived the “traditional” life and knows it’s not for him. Still, he doesn’t want more than to satisfy his lust at The Catacombs, so it’s somewhat of a shock for him to instantly fall for Rowan. He deals with it fairly well and his ability to take what life throws at him makes him the ideal partner for Rowan. Rowan has had a less-than-stellar life so far, and his symbiotic relationship with Theron leaves some things to be desired. I flat-out loved Rowan. Ms. Waters gave him an almost indefinable quality which drew me to him and because of this, I was on the edge of my seat all-the-more, waiting to see if he could make his relationship with Brett work. As for the main obstacle in Rowan’s path, Theron is fascinating. There are times he almost reaches villain territory, but he never crosses it. There’s more to this vampire than meets the eye. His actions seem to be not based on petty jealousy, but rather a broken heart and the need to protect his race. I can’t wait for Ms. Waters to reveal more of his character as this series goes on.Ice Man is a divinely sexual, utterly engaging story. From the time I started reading I couldn’t stop until I finished the book. I loved Brett and Rowan’s story and I can’t wait to read Iron Man, the next Blood Slave tale.

Everything has a label, even love. Take relationships. There are sexual relationships—lust at first sight, friendship—friends with benefits, and romantic love—fated soul mates.Rowan, a flair bartender in the exclusive fetish club Catacombs, subscribes to the lust-at-first-sight proposition. Being a blood slave to the vampire Theron definitely falls into that category. The pleasurable high from donating blood and the fantastic sex Rowan has with Theron definitely take lust to a new level. But for Rowan, his relationship with Theron is actually more of the friends with benefits variety. He's not in love with Theron. Rowan doesn't believe in romantic love—and everyone knows it. That's why he's known as the Ice Man.And then Rowan meets Brett Kirsche. Brett's recently divorced, openly gay, and intriguingly normal. Rowan wants to be with Brett—and he gets his wish. He and Brett have one night of hot, incredible, gotta have more—probably for a lifetime—sex. Rowan starts to believe in a romantic kind of love, which leads to a monogamous relationship between Rowan and Brett. But Rowan's kept the fact he's a blood slave for Theron a secret from Brett. Can he feed Theron without sex and thereby breaking his pledge to be monogamous to Brett? And how long can he keep his secret from his lover because the truth would surely ruin the love he's finally found?I liked the complexity of Rowan and Theron's relationship. Genuine caring on both men's part showed how difficult and endearing friendships can be. Brett and Rowan's attraction, sizzling chemistry and ultimate love connection was a satisfying part of the overall story line. There were, however, a few issues that lessoned the enjoyment of the story for me. The first was Brett's immediate acceptance of vampires, blood slaves, and Rowan's part in that culture. The second was Brett's decision to instantly immerse himself in the same culture Rowan just fought to leave behind.Though to be fair, both of those issues can be attributed to Brett's love and commitment to Rowan. Maybe they just hit me the same way as the ending—rushed. I definitely believe in love conquering all, but the book's fast resolution left an unresolved feeling.Do these issues detract from the book? A little. Should they keep you from reading ICE MAN? Absolutely not. Ms. Waters has a way of working the most erotic interplay into genuinely compelling relationships—and that's why I'll read the next book in the series! This review originally written for The Romance Reviews.Direct Link:

I picked up this book on a whim and it was a nice little read.Rowan grew up in the foster system and then took to the streets. He is taken off the streets by Theron a very old vampire who takes Rowan as his blood slave and a sexual relationship with no emotions involved. There is a fine tension filled line between Rowan resisting being thought Theron's slave and their being able to give something to each other in blood and sex. Rowan has a lot of issues, but finds this relationship meets the needs he has perfectly until the night that Brett walks into the sex club where Rowan bar tends. The club is owned by Theron.Brett is a newly divorced middle aged man who has not come out of the closet and only seeks a sexual encounter with Rowan until they have their moment and he discovers that he wants more. Brett wants a peaceful relationship with no secrets and no complications. Will he be able to handle all the baggage that Rowan brings with him?Theron is aware of Rowan's interest in Brett through the blood connection he shares with Rowan and forces Rowan to walk a tightrope of truth with Brett. Theron threatens to destroy Rowan as a liability because as a human he knows too much about the vampire world. Theron sees Rowan's new relationship as a threat because Rowan promises Brett that he will no longer have sex with Theron. His compromise is that he continues to function as Theron's blood slave. Will Rowan's secrets destroy his chance of happiness with Brett? The world building show a unique story of the vampire world. The plot was full of tension as Rowan must walk a tightrope between the world of the vampire blood slave and the real relationship he has begun with Brett. The character of Rowan is well written as were Brett and Theron. There are multiple layers to them. The story switched between Rowan and Brett's perspective. KyAnn had a unique way of sharing Theron's Point of View because we get his thoughts in Rowan's head. I found Theron very intriguing because I really couldn't figure him out. He felt more toward Rowan than his other regular slaves, but he stopped short of a real relationship because of his centuries old age and experiences.I found it a good read and enjoyed being introduced to this author.

Rowan, who’s always had a pretty good life with Theron, is suddenly thrown by this stranger that comes into his club; Brett, who’s looking for lust, doesn’t expect to fall in love at this same club. Yes, this kind of story has been done to death, but has it ever been done so well? I’ve tried a lot of gay erotica and I was never as affected by it as I was by Ice Man. The sex scenes are graphic without being vulgar – the romance is predictable, without being boring. I think, like in most erotica stories, the biggest character traits of both Rowan and Brett are the way they’re willing to throw themselves into this thing completely. I want to say there’s more to them than that, but I don’t think there really is – in this case, though, it didn’t really bother me. Even though they both have some back story – Rowan is a guy who was taken off the streets some seven years ago by vampire Theron and Brett is a hot-shot business man who just divorced his wife –that didn’t seem to have any real impact on their personalities.Even though there are vampires in this book, I’m hard pressed to call this a paranormal romance. It just doesn’t seem to have that much of an impact on the story, except for the ending, which seemed to be a bit... abrupt. I know it’s supposed to add the conflict to these characters, but I’m not sure it was used to the fullest.

In a vampire world, insta-love is allowed. That's what happened to Brett and the blood slave, Rowan.Years of being Theron's blood and sex slave didn't make him stay. One look, one night, and he falls for Brett.Of course Theron was upset and angry and did everything to make his favorite slave stay.I don't know, I'm kinda feel sorry for Theron here. Because, he cannot say no to Rowan? Or being too weak as a leader? He let Rowan 'do' Brett one night, but Rowan wanted more. How a ungrateful slave he was.LOL.I didn't really enjoyed the sex, but I liked Theron and Rowan's relationship more than Brett and Rowan.Overall, this is an okay read for me, but if you're into the dark side of vampire world, erotic story full of sex and sweat and blood, you'll probably like this one. And of course there's a HEA.* ARC is provided by Netgalley for an honest and fair review. No high rating required.*

Theron is a master vampire and Rowan is his bonded, blood slave. Rowan is unhappy with his sex only relationship, he wants something more. Lucky for him this is a short story. He soon meets Brett at a sex club. Brett is recently divorced and recently out as gay. There is a lot of sweaty, hot sex here so there wasn't a lot of room for character development. Brett and Rowan fall in love quickly, and Rowan wants to end his relationship with Theron. I kept waiting for a threesome, but it never happened. I wasn't sure why Rowan loved Brett so much and in the end he made Brett his blood slave without much discussion. The sex was good but everything flew by too fast to make me care.

Vampires, romance and a 3 very hot guys, what's not to love. These kind of books are always in my top 5 favorite books to read! Loved Rowan and Brett!!! Even with the book being very short the author was able to make me feel the connection between the two and the relationship that Theron had with Rowan was sad. I need to read his story now.I am surprised I got so much out of this book because it was a very short read. I don't usually get this type of book for that reason, but something really drew me to this one.I LOVED IT!There are two more in this series and even though they are short I'm definitely going to read those.

A quick read about a man working in a fetish club owned by a vampire. Rowan owes Theron his life and Theron takes his payment in blood, a very enjoyable act for both of them. After seven years Rowan meets a man who makes him want to break it off with Theron. Although this takes place in a BDSM club there is no real BDSM action going on. There is a little bondage at the beginning and it is eluded to throughout but we don't experience any of it. It's an interesting take on vampire feeding and the results.

I'm not fan of vampire stories but this one was enjoyable. The story started interesting and it pulled me in, but the way this story ended didn't really ring well for me. The main male couple, Rowan and Brett, were interesting together, but how the plot developed at the end was rushed and just to fast. The story could have been better if the ending wouldn't be rushed like that. I missed something here.

This is a unique take on a vampire society that sort of reminded me or another but at the time of this review the name is escaping me... This was so good. I went right to amazon to see it there was another book to continue. I purchased the two books and plan to read them right away.

for a freebie it was ok, but not really my cup of tea. the main characters' motivations were a bit blurry for me. one of the reasons i don't care for shorter stories is that so often characters are not fleshed out as well as i would care to see.
